The Faculty of Biotechnology and Food technology was established under Decision No. 405/QD- DHTN by the Director of TNU on May 6, 2010. Its predecessor was the Department of Biotechnology and Post-Harvest Technology, with a core mission of training, scientific research, and technology transfer in the fields of Biotechnology, Food Technology, and Post-Harvest Technology. On January 30, 2024, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Technology was upgraded to the Institute of Biotechnology - Food Technology, directly under the Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry as per Resolution No. 04/NQ-HĐT of the TUAF’s Council.
As of May 2025, the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology (IBFT) has 37 staff members, including full-time lecturers, visiting lecturers, and technical staff under contract with the TUAF and the IBFT. Among them, there is 01 Professor (2.7%), 02 Associate Professors (5.4%), 20 PhD (54.08%), and 14 Master's degree holders (37.8%). The organizational structure of the IBFT is presented below.
